Be prepared for disasters, prepare!

Compares the destruction in Japan after the earthquake and tsunami, the earthquake in Haiti of 2010 or the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. In Japan, it is expected that the number of deaths could rise to 20,000 people. Could be worse if scientists, military personnel and international effort may not prevent a nuclear disaster. As 20,000 dead is horrible, it's a miracle that no worse. Otherwise a miracle, is a heroic effort to be prepared.

In Haiti, over 700,000 people have died, been injured, and/or found themselves homeless. All the Indian Ocean, more than 150,000 people have lost their lives on the first day alone. The Japanese quake was much larger than Haiti, and about as large as the earthquake that caused tsunami in the Indian Ocean in 2004, but the destruction and loss of life in Japan-is still hard to imagine the gravity-pales in comparison.

What lessons can we learn?

The importance of preparation

Get ready, physically and financially. Japan has been massively successful at organizing relief effort and getting his people emergency supplies: food, water, shelter, etc. Have provided economic stimulus, which it hopes will stem the hemorrhaging of people struck by natural disaster. In addition, they have also prepared their own insurance for the disaster.

Here's how to prepare your own insurance policy for tsunamis, earthquakes, fires, hurricanes and other disasters to which your home might be vulnerable.
Lesson 1: sweat the small stuff

While the details make the difference when it comes to disaster survivors in the best possible, take this phrase literally. Well, not sweating the small stuff, but. You must have all your small items covered.

Sometimes more expensive items that you own are tiny:

* Jewelry
* Decor
* Antiques
* Cameras
* Electronics
* Tools

The cover for these purposes, you should keep a detailed list. Include serial numbers, photographs and descriptions. Update this every year or every time you add something new to the list.

Lesson 2: emergency Kit

An emergency kit is not the same as a first aid Kit (which you should have as well). Emergency Kit is going to get all the important documents that cannot afford to lose in a disaster, as well as your requirements for finance:

* Copies of crucial documents (documents, birth certificates, social security cards, marriage license)
* Copies of prescriptions, health insurance cards, cards, etc.
* Backup of financial records and income tax forms
* Cheques or other financial plans for at least one value of one week to transport or accommodation

You should have this stuff ready to grab and run with. You want to fit into a container, tough, waterproof, which is smaller than a Briefcase.

Lesson 3: Updated Home insurance coverage

Make sure that your policy includes coverage for any natural or other disasters, including the nuclear damage. Make sure there is enough coverage to replace the House and property. Take preventive measures, such as things important films in a safe place, to stop insurance companies from denying coverage.
